To explain this I take two examples where simple soil mix contains fewer ingredients usually in-house, Where with advanced soil mix you may need to buy things online or from stores offline.

1. Simple Soil Mix for Monstera Plant:

To make the best simple or basic soil mix, a mixture of the potting soil and perlite in a 3:2 ratio, nothing but 3 times the soil and 2 times the perlite. This mixture gives us 60% potting soil and 40% perlite. This works for me and if your potting soil is too dense or light, you can adjust the mixing portion.

2. Advanced Soil Mix for Monstera Plant:

Advanced soil mix helps in giving good moisture retention, aeration, drainage, decontamination, and fertilization. With the help of this advanced soil mix, the monstera plant grows faster without root rot whereas the major monstera plant suffers from root rot. I always use this advanced mix for my monstera plants.

Advanced Soil Mix Ingredients:

Bark & Pumice: This provides good aeration and drainage. select long and small chunks of bark and black stone (pumice) to aerate the soil mix. I usually select orchid bark, bark fines, and reptile bark. These are easily available on amazon to buy. Pumice is small rocks like perlite we select this over perlite because it mixes well with soil mix.

Coconut Coir: This is better than peat mass, I always use this for all of my indoor plants to hold the moisture for a long time and very less weight.

Activated charcoal: This is just a burned bark for the most effective way to remove of impurities. It acts as an antibacterial and antifungus to prevent root rot diseases.

Worm Castings: These contain nutrients and beneficiary microbes that help plants grow well.

Advanced Soil Mix Recipe:

Prepare Advanced soil mix with a ratio of 3:3:3:1:1. 3 parts of bark, 3 parts of pumice, 3 parts of coir, 1 part charcoal, and 1 part of worm castings. The easiest way to take scoops is as 1 part as 1 scoop.
